Snow and Cold

It’s a loooong story. Let me just say this. New all time record snowfall (25″ at my home in two weeks) and new record all time cold (-31 just north of here, -17 at my home). It’s been a long two weeks. It was storm after storm, cold wave after cold wave. It has been quite an experience and a once in a lifetime memory.

Drama Queen

I just had to share this story. I love my little Drama Queen. She learned it from the best: Her mother.

I was at Beth and Jeff’s house one day when Beth decided Kam had to get her nails cut. Kam was not happy about it. It seems that she thinks nail cutting is some sort of torture that her mother insists on doing to her on a regular basis. Her expressive little face was way too funny to not take pictures of. She will thank me for this documentation some day.

I admit it. I’m a nerd. However, I prefer to think of myself as my super hero alter ego, Gadget Girl.

I like gadgets. I like computers. I like learning new things. I like challenging my mind. I like creativity.

Smashing Magazine is a very good site for people wanting to learn more about website programming. They also have great tutorials for using Photoshop. And once a month they have some free gorgeous desktop wallpapers.

3D Ultrasound baby pictures

My newest grandbaby is coming in March. We cannot wait to meet her. She already seems to be pretty strong willed. She and her momma have been tussling about sharing. Misty wants her to share space and not push or kick and the baby just wants what she wants.

Here are some pictures of our newest sweet one. The black and white ultrasound pics show that she has a head full of hair already!

It almost torture to sit still at church and listen to preaching.

Not that our pastor is boring. That’s not it at all. He’s great.

I cannot hardly sit still to listen if I don’t do something with my hands. Even at home I cannot just sit and watch TV without having something in my hands to do. Otherwise I am jumping up every little bit to go do something.

So I sketch. It really does help me listen.

Working calves

David is leasing a bigger pasture with two of his friends. They are going to put 15 pairs of cows/calves each on the pasture.

Saturday David and I were working the calves. This means we were giving worm shots and shots to prevent blackleg to each calf. Their mommas also got worm shots. Mommas got a new large numbered ear tag while their baby got a smaller matching ear tag.

We found out that our Bella, a Miniature Australian Shepherd, is learning how to work cattle. She’s still young at 6 months and has never been trained. David and I have no idea how to go about it. Saturday while working the cows she was out there with us. She started bringing the cows and calves from one pen to another, bringing them down the runway, bringing them into lot to be sorted, and running them out of the lot. She needed a bit of direction but really she did a lot on her own.

In this video watch for the little blue merle. She is running beside David until she figures out what he wants. Once she has it she takes those calves right on down the runway and out into the pasture. She did so well!

Softball tonight!

I love watching my granddaughters do anything. Anything at all. It might be Kam sliding down her new slide. Or it might be Kaylea interacting with her friends. Could be Kam talking to total strangers and seeing them respond to her.

And tonight? Tonight David and I will be watching Kaylea play softball. I will freely admit it. I am hooked on softball. Or hmmmm…. perhaps I am just hooked on this particular team. I have enjoyed watching them learn new skills, try them out on the field, and do well.

Kaylea has been with this group of girls for three years now. They play spring, summer, and fall ball so they are together a lot. This is the best group of girls. They all get along very well – more like a group of good friends instead of softball players. The parents are spectacular which is probably why the girls are so great.

So tonight my husband and I will be sitting in the bleachers on a beautiful spring evening. We’ll be chatting with some good people. We’ll be cheering for the best little 12U softball team ever. And our loudest and best cheers will be for that little catcher. She’s gramma’s darlin’. Go, Storm! Go, Kaylea!

I got a new camera!

And oh, boy. Am I ever excited!

I loved my last Canon Powershot which died a very sad and untimely death. After quite a bit of research I decided on the latest Powershot, the Canon PowerShot SX10 IS. So far I love it. I have a Pentax Optio A40 that is perfect for carrying in my purse. It’s tiny and takes great photos – as long as no one is moving. I needed more.

This new camera is not a pocket camera, but it is not as large as an SLR. It has a built in 20x optical zoom, which is great for framing those further away shots. It has a very large screen, and a timer. Those are the features I use most, but it is also fully manual and fully automatic with everything in between. It has a wonderful, big zoom lens, a rotating LCD, manual controls, and a nice movie mode which is very important to me.

I am excited about getting the chance to really try it out!
